Your Safety Network is the bridge between Altstec's home monitoring and personal security features and the real people who can act on an alert. A well-built network means faster response times — for both a camera alert at home and an SOS message sent while you're out.

What Is a Safety Network?

A Safety Network is a list of trusted people connected to your Altstec account who can receive alerts from your cameras, sensors, and personal safety features. Depending on the permission level you set, they can view live camera feeds, receive motion alerts, see your location during an SOS, or simply get a notification that something needs attention.

Choosing the Right People

  • Household members — give them full access so anyone at home can respond to alerts.
  • Nearby family or neighbors — ideal for camera/motion alerts when you're away and someone needs to physically check on your property.
  • A trusted friend or partner — add them for SOS and location-sharing so they're notified immediately if you trigger a personal safety alert while traveling or commuting.
  • Caregivers — useful for monitoring elderly relatives or children, with access tailored to what they need to see.

Setting Permission Levels

In the Altstec app, go to Safety Network → Manage Members and set a permission level for each person:

  1. Alerts Only — receives notifications but cannot view footage or location.
  2. View Access — can view live camera feeds and alert history.
  3. Full Access — can view cameras, location during SOS, and accept or reject alerts on your behalf.

You can change or revoke any member's access at any time — nothing is permanent.

Personal Security While Traveling

For solo commuters, students, and travelers, your Safety Network becomes especially important. When you press SOS, your live location and an alert are sent to everyone with View or Full Access. If you're checking in after a late commute, a quick "Arrived Safely" tap notifies your network automatically — no need to send a separate text.

Reviewing and Updating Your Network

Revisit your Safety Network every few months. Remove people who no longer need access, and add new household members, roommates, or travel companions as your situation changes. A network that's up to date is one that actually responds when it matters.
